Diversity at Work: A Guide to Reducing Bias in Hiring
Biases are something that every single person on the planet has, because they’re human and have a brain. They’re incredibly useful in many ways: because our brains have to process millions of pieces of information at any one time, most of this processing happens unconsciously. In other words, we’ve created mental shortcuts for ourselves (the word "bias" derives f rom the Greek word "oblique", meaning a diagonal line).These shortcuts actually help to keep us on an even keel.
