The 2023 State of Workplace Empathy report reveals the largest recorded divide between CEOs and HR, with HR professionals reporting record-low perceptions of empathy and 61% experiencing mental health issues. While 92% of CEOs view HR as empathetic, only 68% of HR professionals feel the same about their CEOs. Return-to-office mandates during record inflation have further strained empathy, with only 21% of employees saying RTO improved their wellness. Flexibility remains the top empathetic benefit, yet is offered by just 39% of organizations. DEIB progress has stalled, but remote workers report higher belonging and authenticity.
