The trust Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) employs around 10,000 staff and serves a population of 500,000 people living in Northumberland and North Tyneside. Its staff survey results have been consistently high in recent years and in 2016 it gained an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with the four categories of effective caring, responsive and well-led being assessed as excellent and the fifth category of safe as good. The 2017 NHS Staff Survey results show Northumbria’s overall engagement score, at 3.91, as being in the highest 20 per cent when compared with similar trusts.
