Spectris Advance Wind Power – detecting bearing creep in turbines
Bearing looseness, also called bearing creep, can occur between the outer race and the housing, or between the inner race and shaft. Detection and diagnostics of either condition requires specialised condition monitoring techniques and diagnostic expertise. Challenge To provide a a condition monitoring and diagnostic solution in order to detect bearing creep before it becomes necessary to replace the entire gearbox. Solution A mixture of sensor-based monitoring with detection and diagnostic techniques was installed to provide and analyse measurements to detect looseness. Results By identifying bearing creep at an early stage, substantial savings can be made by avoiding lengthy downtime for investigation and repairs.
