Spectris Advance Wind Power – detecting faults in yaw bearing
The yaw bearing system supports the enormous static and dynamic loads of the nacelle and blades, and allows the nacelle to align itself into the wind. Two case study examples demonstrate how an effective remote condition monitoring strategy avoids uneconomical operation, costly downtime and consequent damage of wind turbines. Challenge To detect and diagnose wind turbine faults before any critical failures can occur, rendering the system non- functional. Solution Brüel & Kjær Vibro Surveillance Centres remotely monitor wind turbines for many kinds of faults, allowing detection even in unexpected components. Results Early detection of these problems enabled the clients to make repairs before serious damage could occur. This also restored operational efficiency. Case study Case stu
