Higher Education CHP Case Study THE OPPORTUNITY Wentworth Institute of Technologyupgradedtheir existing CHP system to a new state of the art system with integrated heat recovery steam generator and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emissions system. The campus was previously heated by an older CHP system and conventional steam boilers and cooled usinggas-firedabsorptionchillers. The Institute evaluated the options to upgrade their existing CHP system and heating plants to higher efficiency and lower carbonemittingtechnologies. Thesizinganalysisindicateda570kWenaturalgastrigeneration systemwith up to 2,800 lbs/hour of steam generation would be the best candidate for this site. The low pressure steam generated by the Tri-Gen system is the base load for heating needs in the shoulder months
