Hospital CHP Case Study THE OPPORTUNITY Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital was built in 2013 in Boston Navy Yard in Charlestown, Massachusetts, in 2005. Partners Network is the owner of the hospital and was deeply impacted by the experiences of their hospitals in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. This prompted their intent to ensure operational resiliency for the new Boston hospital in the case of future flooding. The design moved the mechanical and electrical rooms to the roof and penthouse, while they evaluated power options for the building. During this evaluation, the features of CHP were investigated and the decision to include a CHP system in the design was made.
