Intel IT developed a custom benchmark to evaluate massively parallel processing (MPP) relational database management systems, aiming to cut costs while handling the 20x growth of manufacturing data in the past decade. Standard benchmarks didn’t reflect Intel’s complex, high-velocity, low-latency data needs, so the team built a dataset and workload mirroring production use. Vendors’ solutions were tested for scalability, throughput, ingestion speed, and workload management. Results informed cost-efficient choices, while feedback drove product improvements. Combined with 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, this approach lowers manufacturing data management costs and strengthens ecosystem innovation.
