The State of Engineering Management in 2022
Jellyfish’s 2022 State of Engineering Management report shows teams shifted more work toward infrastructure, rising from 14% to 19%, while customer support dropped from 29% to 24%. Visibility was a top challenge, with 22% of time spent on unplanned work and 45% of leaders citing focus alignment as their biggest concern. Average cycle time fell 12% to 12.6 days, and issues resolved per week increased 5%. Teams using Engineering Management Platforms (EMPs) saw the greatest gains, allocating 29% more time to innovation, cutting unplanned work by 48%, and improving throughput, collaboration, and engagement, with faster delivery and fewer bottlenecks.
