Jellyfish’s 2022 State of Engineering Management report shows teams shifted more work to planned infrastructure, rising from 6% to 19%, while 35% of time went to growth and innovation. Despite progress, visibility remained a challenge, with teams spending 22% of time on unplanned work and 45% of leaders citing alignment as their top concern. Operational efficiency improved as average cycle times fell 12% to 12.6 days and issues resolved rose 5% to 1.7 per week. Teams using Engineering Management Platforms saw the best results, with 29% more time on growth, 48% less on unplanned work, 15% higher throughput, 17% shorter cycle times, and 9% better collaboration.
