Keeper Security’s 2023 Password Management Report, based on a survey of 8,200 people across the US, UK, France, and Germany, reveals a wide gap between perception and reality in password practices. While 28% believe strong passwords are the best defense, only 25% use unique ones for every account, with 34% relying on repeated variations and 30% still using simple passwords. Gen Z shows the weakest practices, while Baby Boomers perform best. Despite 75% not following best practices, 51% think cybersecurity is easy to understand. Overconfidence, poor awareness, and overwhelming advice leave many exposed, stressing the need for password managers and MFA.
