CONSUMER SUSTAINABILITY SURVEY 2021
The 2021 Consumer Sustainability Survey by FDRA and First Insight reveals that consumers prioritize durability, animal welfare, and transparent eco-marketing when evaluating sustainable footwear. While 46% of respondents preferred the term “eco-friendly,” most valued specific product details like materials and production methods over abstract company goals. Gen Z and Millennials are more engaged with sustainability efforts, often researching claims and willing to pay \$1–10 more for greener shoes. Over 70% of consumers favored right-sized, recycled packaging and wanted passive end-of-life recycling options. Certification logos and clear vegan leather definitions also boost consumer trust.
