In 2020, Time reported that in 1960, 5% of the national income was spent on healthcare. In 2017 , that figure was 18%. The $10,739 annual per capita cost is far more than the next-highest developed country, Switzerland. To make matters worse, the study shows the U.S. trails other countries when it comes to life expectancy. So, we’re essentially paying more and getting less.
