#ASE3TUDY 7 AREHAM"RIDGE Wareham, Dorset Wareham Bridge Southern Concrete Services were appointed by Dorset County Council, following competitive tendering, to refurbish Wareham Bridge in Dorset. Wareham Bridge is a three-span reinforced concrete bridge built circa 1920 which needed entirely refurbishing. The refurbishment was complicated by the tidal river, limited restriction for road closures, abnormally cold weather and the requirements for specially designed cantilevered scaffolding. The bridge had previously been coated, but many areas had failed and were badly chalking. The initial works involved the removal of all existing coatings using an environmentally friendly open blast method, allowing for the fact that the works were being carried out over a very sensitive tida
