PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Giant Eagle, a grocery chain founded in 1918 with more than 200 locations across the Midwest, introduced a new format for its upscale Market District brand at Grandview Yard. Designed based on the simple, elegant architecture reminiscent of groceries in the early 20th century, the nearly 96,000-square-foot building envelope features single wythe loadbearing masonry construction completed in less than a month. Karst & Sons Masonry laid standard CMUs with QUIKRETE ® Mason Mix Type S Mortar as the foundation before laying half-high, kiln-fired clay CMUs with QUIKRETE ® Mason Mix Type M Mortar in a custom dark red Wesleyan. The vertically stacked cores were filled with QUIKRETE ® Core-Fill Grout Coarse, eliminating the need for a structural steel frame. T
