PROJECT DESCRIPTION: District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) provides more than 600,000 residents, 16.6 million annual visitors and 700,000 District of Columbia employees with water, sewage and wastewater treatment. Part of DC Water’s responsibility is the management of 1,900 miles of sanitary, stormwater and combined sewers, which can require shaft renovations to accommodate growing service demands. To meet the structural demands of repairing an existing sewer shaft, Skanska USA spray-applied QUIKRETE ® Shotcrete MS – Fiber Reinforced with an accelerated set time of just two minutes, the material was applied over earth frozen using a super-cooled brine solution during the excavation process.
