Case study Executive Summary Prior to 2007, scientists and researchers in France were frequently required to do their research in counties such as the US and Japan because the high performance computers in France could not handle their research requirements. Grand équipement national de calcul intensif (GENCI) was formed in 2007 to meet the requirements for research done by French researchers, scientists and companies as well as researchers in Europe as part of PRACE. Since its inception, GENCI created a series of GENCI centers housing top-rated HPC systems and provided support to help researchers optimize their code to utilize the GENCI systems. GENCI is installing a new state-of- the-art HPC system in 2018 that will put GENCI at the forefront of HPC centers to support research t
