Portable or central? That is one of the questions to consider when buying a vacuum system. But as V.D. Ledermann & Co. GmbH – perhaps better known as the maker of Edding marker pens – has shown in its Bautzen plant in Germany, there is a third option too. They use a semi- portable system to remove the plastic shavings that are generated by the production of marker pen casings. About half of all Edding pens are manufactured in this plant, which was built in 1992 and produces up to 200,000 pens per shift. One stage of the largely automated process involves trimming the pen casings to the correct length.
