Cragside House – Boardwalk
Cragside House – Boardwalk Case Study Cragside, a National Trust property, was built by Lord Armstrong, the pioneering engineer in 1863 and comprises a house full of ingenious inventions and surrounded by a landscape of amazing drama full of rocks, towering trees, lakes and tumbling streams. Around Tumbleton Lake (built in 1865) runs Lady’s Walk, which shows Lady Armstrong’s great passion for landscape design and Lord Armstrong’s enthusiasm for the function and beauty of water. Much work has been done to restore Lady’s Walk, and to facilitate the re-opening of the full 1.6km to the public. It was necessary, in order to complete the project, to install a new boardwalk, as well as a fishing platform and access ramp to the boathouse.
