Broadwood Loch – Boardwalk Case Study Broadwood Loch, situated near Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire, is an informal recreational area serving the local community and is used for walking, fishing etc. Owned by the Council, for some time there has been a ‘missing link’ in the circuit around the loch due to land contractual issues. In order to fill the gap, explains Liz Trayner,the landscape architect who designed the project, the answer was to erect a boardwalk along the edge of the loch. It was decided that the best material to use would be recycled plastic rather than wood because it is maintenance free and will never leach chemicals into the water.
