EHW were appointed as architects to undertake the restoration and complete internal remodelling of the former Odeon Cinema in London Road, St Albans. The existing building closed its doors for the last time in the mid 1990’s and since then has suffered from severe neglect and disrepair. Local residents protested at the threat of this landmark art deco building being demolished to make way for a new build residential development. The practice’s client purchased the building in 2010 and the initial task was to engage with the local council to seek consent, reinstate the former leisure use and obtain their further approvals for a series of external and internal repairs to this signifi cant locally listed building.
