The Scottish Government, in collaboration with Capgemini and other stakeholders, developed the Check In Scotland service to support the reopening of the hospitality sector after COVID-19 lockdowns. The service, which features QR code scanning technology for contact tracing, was adopted by 27,000 businesses, facilitated over 20 million check-ins, and had more than 500,000 app downloads. It streamlined data collection for contact tracing, saving £7.7 million in costs. The system enhanced public health efforts by providing efficient and secure data collection while ensuring GDPR compliance and supporting businesses to reopen safely.
