Apple Blossom Apartments Case Study Apple Blossom LDHA was created to purchase and renovate the historic Central School in Iron River, Michigan. Iron River is located in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula. Built in 1909, the building is an example of Dutch Colonial Revival-style architecture. The building was used as a primary and secondary school from 1909 to 1980. It was closed in 1980 and subsequently used for storage. Environmental issues and a partial demolition created a barrier to redevelopment. The Iron River Downtown Development Authority (DDA) purchased the building and took on the responsibility for environmental remediation.
