Originally built in 1759, it opened as an art gallery in 1962 to celebrate a host of local and international artists, and houses works dating back to the 17th Century. Artists included are John Ruskin, George Romney, JMW Turner, Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney and Paula Rego, and the gallery also plays host to an ambitious exhibition programme.
