Houghton Hall Case Study, Grade I listed
“Working in harmony with Palladian architecture to support the changing needs of a Grade 1 listed stately home. ” Houghton Hall was designed by Colen Campbell and James Gibbs and completed in 1735 for its owner Sir Robert Walpole – Britain’s first Prime Minister. It is a key building in the history of Palladian architecture. The Grade I listed building is surrounded by 1,000 acres of parkland adjacent to Sandringham House and is home to the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley. The main project involved converting a section of the stables (originally constructed between 1733 & 1735) in to a visitors centre including a café and model soldier museum.
