The bumpy road to zero-emission trucks
The transition to zero-emission trucks is crucial but faces significant challenges. While some fleets are adopting lower-carbon fuels like natural gas and biofuels, the shift to electric and hydrogen-powered trucks is slower due to high costs, limited infrastructure, and technological hurdles. Regulatory pressure is increasing, especially in the EU and California, pushing OEMs to develop zero-emission portfolios. However, widespread adoption requires major investments in charging infrastructure, reduced vehicle costs, and collaboration across the ecosystem to ensure reliability and lower total cost of ownership.
