New Relic’s May 2024 report on IT and telco observability reveals these sectors face the second-highest outage frequency across industries, with 37% reporting high-impact outages weekly and a median annual downtime of 26 hours. The median annual outage cost is \$12.71M, with nearly a quarter of outages costing over \$1M per hour. Observability adoption has improved MTTR for 65% of respondents, and organizations with full-stack observability report even greater benefits. Tool sprawl and high costs remain barriers, but 41% plan consolidation. With projected 2x+ ROI, observability is crucial for improving uptime, efficiency, and digital customer experience.
