The Dwell Time Report shows that detention is a costly issue, with 78% of carriers losing at least one load per month and shippers paying $50–$100 per incident. A pilot with Coca-Cola, Land O’Lakes, Wegmans, and Giant Eagle used FourKites’ Facility Manager to analyze 48,500 loads and identify causes like load imbalance, late arrivals, and inefficient check-ins. Improvements included digital check-ins, consolidated guard shacks, and better load balancing, which reduced median dwell times and non-compliance rates. Addressing dwell creates 2–4% added trucking capacity, lowers costs, and helps shippers become “facilities of choice”.
