Legacy systems and high upgrade costs (56% and 51%) top automation challenges, while balancing energy cost, comfort, and new emissions rules drives sustainability concerns. Many buildings remain ill-equipped for hybrid work, struggling with outdated A/V systems, poor air monitoring, and weak connectivity. Ransomware and IoT protection lead cybersecurity worries, and limited budgets plus hard-to-prove ROI remain key barriers to adopting new tech. Respondents also cite rapid AI adoption, regulatory shifts, and skill shortages as emerging obstacles. Overall, the findings show that modernization efforts hinge on overcoming cost, integration, and workforce gaps while aligning innovation with long-term resilience and compliance goals.
