A HUMAN-CENTERED APPROACH TO THE CONTEMPORARY GLOBAL WORKFORCE
The SHRM Global Worker Project reveals the modern workforce is increasingly diverse and dynamic, moving beyond the traditional worker model amid globalization and demographic shifts. It identifies five global worker types-full-time salaried, full-time hourly, part-time, temporary, and independent workers-highlighting varied needs and challenges. Core human needs driving job satisfaction and retention include financial security, dignity, meaningful work, upskilling, and trust. Mental health is a critical retention factor, with poor workplace mental health significantly increasing job search likelihood.
