The 2021 Mid-Year DDoS Attack Landscape Report reveals a fourth consecutive year of growth in DDoS attacks, driven by pandemic-related digital expansion. Volumetric attacks exceeding 100 Gbps surged, with TCP reflection and UDP amplification being dominant methods. NTP and OpenVPN-based attacks became major vectors, while carpet-bombing and gateway IP targeting rose among ISPs and cloud providers. IoT devices, particularly routers and cameras, remained major attack sources, and botnets like XOR DDoS dominated. China and the US accounted for over 55% of attack origins, with 67% of incidents lasting under five minutes.
