Keeper’s 2021 Ransomware Impact Report, based on 2,000 U.S. employees, highlights the severe disruption ransomware causes. Seventy-seven percent lost access to systems or networks, and 64% lost credentials or documents due to post-attack changes. Nearly a third of employees didn’t know what ransomware was before their organization was hit. Phishing emails accounted for 42% of attacks, while 21% stemmed from compromised passwords. Although 49% of employers paid the ransom, 93% faced budget cuts afterward. Most organizations responded by tightening security, with 87% enacting stricter protocols and 62% implementing multi-factor authentication.
