The 2022 Thales Data Threat Report for Federal organizations highlights ongoing challenges in managing hybrid work and cloud security. Only 19% of respondents know where all their data is stored, and 23% have at least 60% of sensitive cloud data encrypted. Ransomware remains a major concern, with 23% reporting attacks and 38% citing operational impacts. About 59% store 40% or more of their data externally, and multi-cloud adoption is rising. While 52% have formal Zero Trust strategies, others only apply partial concepts. Quantum computing risks such as decryption and blockchain attacks also raise concern.
