The 2022 Thales Data Threat Report for Manufacturing shows that ransomware is the top threat, with 63% of non-automotive and 74% of automotive manufacturers identifying it as the leading source of attacks. About 31% are adopting zero trust strategies, and 80% use multi-factor authentication. Key fallout from ransomware includes financial losses, data exfiltration, and lost productivity. Only 53% are confident in knowing where their data is stored, while 61% report that 60% or more of their cloud data is encrypted. Over half have five or more key management systems, revealing ongoing security complexity.
