ZeroFox’s 2022 Black Friday and Cyber Monday report warns that cybercriminals exploit the surge in online shopping through social engineering, phishing, and fake websites. Threat actors use non-delivery, order, delivery, and gift card scams via email, SMS, and social media to steal financial and personal data. Fraudulent domains and SEO manipulation drive victims to malicious sites mimicking major retailers. Social media impersonations and fake promotions further spread malware and scams. Although no planned retail attacks were identified, activists have previously used the events for demonstrations. ZeroFox advises vigilance, avoiding unsolicited links, and verifying legitimate retail sources to prevent fraud.
