There are 94.8 million advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), or smart meters installed in the United States, recording energy usage at a minimum on hourly intervals—generating up to 1,440 data points per month. Yet, many energy providers are leaving this rich data set untapped since they often don’t have the software or analytics to interpret this data to unearth meaningful insights. Added to this, customers expect utilities to use their data and known preferences to personalize their experience—much like Netflix or or Amazon provides curated recommendations.
