The medieval Hospital of St Cross was founded in the 1130’s and is considered England’s oldest and most perfect almshouse. In 2017 Seymore and Bainbridge Architects commissioned Ellis and Co to reorder the north end of the former kitchen wing and to provide new offices and visitor toilets. The ground level was excavated and drainage installed. The floors were then relaid with a deep mineral wool insulation and wooden floor boards, vinyl floor coverings were laid in the bathrooms. And the original flint floor was retained in the entrance and repointed with lime and grit mortar. Station Road, Shepton Mallet, S
