U.S. Navy Memorial and Market Square Park | Volkert Location: Washington, DC Client: Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation Volkert provided civil and electrical engineering services for the design of the Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th Street, N.W. and 9th Street, N.W. and Market Square Park in front of the U.S. Archives Building. To honor those who serve in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines, the Memorial plaza features granite pavement that replicates the world’s oceans, fountain pools, a statue created by Stanly Bleifield called The Lone Sailor, landscaped seating areas, and monumental lighting.
