Lowry Park Riverbank | Volkert Location: Tampa, FL Client: City of Tampa A stretch of Hillsborough River shoreline at Tampa’s Lowry Park, which is both a municipal park and a zoo, was severely eroded and portions of the riverbank were covered with broken concrete riprap. The City of Tampa selected Volkert to design a stabilized riverbank with pedestrian amenities suitable for this highly visible and well-used facility. Volkert designed a stabilized riverbank with a pedestrian walkway. Volkert’s design entailed cleanup, regrading, decked walkways on timber piers, lookout points, protected tree wells, and landscaping with plant species suitable for the tidal riverbank ecology.
