Hurricane Katrina washed away key portions of the highway from Louisiana to Alabama, including the Biloxi Bay Bridge between Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Volkert helped assess and oversee the removal of the damaged bridge and the reconstruction of the new one for the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
