Perdido Pass Bridge | Volkert Location: Baldwin County, AL Client: Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Completed in 1989, the Perdido Pass Bridge won the Grand Award for Engineering Excellence for the Alabama section of the American Consulting Engineers Council and the Outstanding Engineering Achievement award from the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers. Volkert was responsible for the final design and contract plans for 1,623 feet of bridge across a narrow waterway where Perdido Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico for the Alabama Department of Transportation. The structure consists of two 35-foot roadways with a four-foot raised median and two five-foot sidewalks with a safety fence.
