THE CHALLENGE The Chinook PT at Abbey Wood, Bristol, required modifications to the existing Mk2 Youngman Chinook Hi-Way staging to accommodate Mk2, Mk3 & Mk4 Chinook Aircrafts. The Vector Aerospace’s maintenance facility in Gosport, required staging that would not impact in any way on the servicing schedule of the aircraft. THE BRIEF A number of constraints and design criteria were briefed to during various on-site consultations. The solution for Mk2s modifications had to conform to current British Standards and Work at Height Regulations. Ensuring a solution provided the required access to the aircraft entry/exit points and all serviceable points of the aircraft. Utilising space to the smallest possible footprint was crucial, due to hangar space coming at a premium
