Overview The original coating located in the chemical cargo tanks onboard the chemical tanker had failed. The tanks were therefore suffering from severe corrosion damage and had to be refurbished. Challenge The existing failed coating had to be completely removed. Traditional phenolic epoxies would not have the necessary chemical and high temperature resistance required to handle this vessel’s cargo. Therefore the new coating system had to have protection from the full pH range. Solution The cargo tanks were grit blasted to Sa 21/2 standard. This was followed by one stripe coat and two full coats of Chem-tectTM RB 300. To complete the coat- ing system, one topcoat of Chem-tectTM RB 300TC was applied.
