The Granary, Abbotsbury
Case Study The Granary, Abbotsbury Ellis and Co completed a programme of structural stabilisation, repairs and restoration roofing of The Granary. This historic scheduled monument lies in the southern precinct of the remains of St Peters Benedictine Abbey at Abbotsbury. The two-storey granary structure is thought to date to the 18 th Century and is built from 14 th century masonry recovered from the original Abbey. Asbestos in corrugated roof sheeting was removed by a specialist sub-contractor. The iron roof structure was removed to enable the reinstatement of a timber roof with double roman clay tiles. The walls were cleared of vegetation and the masonry and lime stabilised. Temporary timber supports were installed while the walls were repaired with stone from the Abbey’s
