RESIDUE DISPOSAL SITE AUGHINISH ALUMINA Aughinish Alumina is the largest European refinery plant manufacturing aluminium oxide (the basic raw material required for aluminium production). It is located on South-West coast of Ireland, in the vicinity of Shannon river estuary; it was built within the period from 1978 to 1983, projected production capacity being at the level of 800 000 tons per annum. Over the years, the volume of production has been gradually increased and nowadays, the annual output is more than 1 800 000 tons of aluminium oxide.
