Case Study
Sadinata Landfill
SADINATA LANDFILL The year 2007 saw the start of the project aiming at becoming a complex waste management solution for Sofia - the capital city of Bulgaria. The original landfill of Sofia (population > 1 mil.) almost reached its full capacity and it was even necessary to partly transfer the waste to various other landfills in the country – thereby having put a significant financial burden on the city ´s budget. The project was designed and implemented in 2 locations – Han Bogrov and Sadinata. Composting plants processing bio-degradable and "green" waste were constructed in the former, while separating & recycling facilities and a landfill for depositing non-hazardous waste were designed to be put into operation in the latter. Construction works at the waste disposal site commenced in 2011
