CarbonWrap ® REPAIRING STEEL PIPES WHEN WELDING IS NOT AN OPTION Problem The San Francisco Public Utilities Department faced a very diffi cult problem. When they tried to sandblast a very old riveted steel stand pipe inside a tower behind a dam, due to corrosion and thinning of the pipe’s walls, the sandblasting resulted in numerous holes and leaks in the pipe. Because the pipe was too close to the tower walls (about 3 inches from the walls), welding was not an option.
