Recovered text messages provide critical evidence in high-profile Atlanta homicide case
The problem/challenge Rickman and Carter had been in a volatile, off and on relationship for several years. In September 2013, Carter broke off the relationship after several heated arguments, and one of those arguments had led to charges of battery being filed against Rickman, based on Carter’s complaint to the police. On September 13, 2013, Carter was shot to death at Rickman’s home. Rickman said she acted in self- defense after Carter raped her.
