NASA Ames built Aitken, its next-generation supercomputer, using a modular, containerized architecture powered by 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Gold 6248 processors. Designed for energy efficiency, Aitken uses local climate-based air cooling (PUE 1.03) and supports advanced simulations for missions like Artemis. Starting with 3.69 petaFLOPS and 46,080 cores, Aitken will scale to over 133 petaFLOPS across 12 modules. Its architecture—proven by the Electra prototype—enables high-density, tightly coupled computing with reduced power and water use, empowering scientists with deeper, faster research capabilities.
