A multinational energy company struggled with limited visibility into sensitive data across SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive, raising compliance and security risks. With 2TB of sensitive data totaling 3.5 million items and growing annually by 100K records, including spikes of 250K in 2022, the risk of exposure was significant. Partnering with Lighthouse, the company used an environment scan with Microsoft Information Protection to identify unsecured records such as ABA routing numbers, EU passport numbers, SWIFT codes, and UK health identifiers. The scan uncovered hundreds of thousands of records, enabling sensitivity label pilots, automated classification, and a foundation for a full Microsoft Purview rollout.
